Careers and Employability Hub
Every year we help hundreds of our students to explore, develop and shape their futures. The Careers and Employability Hub is here to support them throughout their time at the University. This is so that they are well prepared for their chosen next steps when they leave. We can help students to explore their career or further study options, develop the skills and self-awareness that will help them achieve their goals, and prepare to promote themselves to employers in a competitive graduate job market.
Our online careers portal, Horizons, is available to current students and our alumni. It provides 24/7 access to a wealth of careers information, e-learning and tools including:
- self-awareness and aptitude tests
- career pathway and employer discovery videos
- help with preparing a CV and applications
- interview and assessment centre preparation
- graduate and internship job search tools
- advice about developing skills that are highly sought after by employers.
Students have access to one-to-one support from career advisers to address their questions and provide guidance and coaching.
Workshops and presentations form the core of our campus delivery throughout the academic year. We also work closely with each academic school to tailor these to students’ needs. Students will also hear from a range of visiting professionals and alumni, and can attend careers fairs to help enrich their understanding of the world of work that lies ahead.

We are proud to link with local, national and international businesses to help employers find fresh talent and to enrich the experience of our students.
If you would be interested in engaging with our students during our careers fairs or by delivering workshops to students, please get in touch.
We can also advertise current graduate and work experience vacancies on our internal careers portal to ensure that Buckingham students come across your opportunities.

We also organise university wide career fairs twice per academic year, typically in April and October. The upcoming event will be the Virtual Careers Fair on 21st October 2020, 14:00 – 17:00. If you would like to attend, please contact the careers team for more details.

Did you know that you may still receive support from the Careers and Employability Hub long after you have graduated?
All our alumni have unlimited access to our online careers portal, Horizons. In addition to its resources for those who are preparing to seek graduate employment, Horizons also supports ongoing career management and development once you are in employment. If you are currently unemployed and/or seeking a new role, you’ll find that Horizons can help you with everything from upgrading your CV and brushing up your interview technique, to tips for effective networking. It also has a job search engine.
Before graduating, you may switch your student Horizons account to a personal email address, enabling you to access Horizons after graduating. If you did not do this before graduating, please contact us at email@example.com to request an alumni login.
We also offer our alumni free one-to-one careers consultations with one of our careers advisers. Whether you are seeking employment and need support with applications, would like a mock interview, or want some coaching to help you consider your future career path, we would be happy to talk to you. Up to two careers consultations may be booked per 12 month period, conducted over the phone, via video call or face to face.
