New Masters commences at BUCSIS

30 August 2023

A new Masters By Research in Covert Action, HUMINT and the Psychology of Intelligence Elicitation launches on the 2 October 2023.

This innovative programme allows students to undertake a deep-dive into an intelligence related subject of their choice. The award of the Masters is based on the submission of a 25,000 word research project to a panel of experts at the end of the course. The aim of the programme is to encourage students to explore research areas that are traditionally off limits to academic students. While the students also study three modules, these are not directly assessed. The weighting of marks falls entirely on the research project. To offer the greatest flexibility for students, it can be undertaken part time (2-years) or full time (1-year).

Programme leader Dr Ian Stanier stated:

“Encouraging students to undertake research into covert and intelligence practice and policy is critical to understanding what works and what does not in the field. We have sought to offer a flexible course that suits people who are embarking on study while also holding down a job.”

In another innovative twist, prospective students can qualify for the programme either by way of a first degree OR relevant professional experience. It is also open to ELCAS funding. Contact Dr Ian Stanier on ian.stanier@buckingham.ac.uk for more information.
