Buckingham bucks the UCAS trend

2 February 2017

The University of Buckingham has bucked the national trend with a gigantic 25% rise in admissions over the last year, one of the biggest increases in the country.

New figures reveal that applications to UCAS are down 5% sector-wide this year but Buckingham is more buoyant than ever.

University of Buckingham Director of Admissions James Seymour said: “Although UCAS applications across the sector are down our independent university is one of the biggest risers in the UK and is bucking the trend. Overall applications are up by a colossal 25%.

“As the country’s first “positive university” we have put huge emphasis on pastoral care, well-being and a holistic approach. This involves teaching in small groups so students feel valued as individuals, able to stretch themselves and be open to new ideas in an environment where lecturers have an open door policy and are closely involved in their learning.

“Our award-winning teaching methods have resulted in us topping tables for graduate employability and student satisfaction which has led to a gigantic increase in demand to study at a place where students will not only be happy but rewarded with a job when their studies are complete.”

Buckingham’s increased popularity has been driven by its success in rankings. It has been leading the National Student Survey (NSS) for the last decade for student satisfaction, topping Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) listings for graduate employability and has was awarded the Times and Sunday Times University of the Year for teaching quality last year.

At Buckingham overall applications are up by 25% and UCAS applications have risen by 15%. Medicine application are up by 30% at Buckingham and the UK sector is down by 3%.

The 15th January UCAS deadlines does not apply to Buckingham – students can apply all year round.
