Teaching Physical Education and Games

This action-packed training course is aimed at providing teachers with an essential tool kit to deliver effective and safe PE and games lessons. It is aimed at teachers who are supervising or teaching games when their specialism is not sport. The course is suitable for both secondary and primary staff, as well as sports graduates who have no teacher training.

This training will provide:

How to plan safe lessons taking into account age and stage of development

This session will include:

  • Health and safety legal aspects and limitations to teaching PE
  • Group management and use of space
  • Clothing, equipment and playing areas

How to plan and deliver exciting PE lessons to ensure good progress is made by all

This session will include:

  • Basic teaching principles of games activities
  • The what, who & how of Lesson planning
  • Planning lessons to incorporate health-related fitness and promote an understanding of wellbeing

A range of strategies and practise ideas that you can use in your lessons

This session will include:

  • Understanding physical literacy
  • A range of practises that can be adapted across several sports
  • Organisation formats and running small competitions

Trainees applying for a place on a University of Buckingham PGCE will be able to apply for the Teaching of Games & Physical Education course on the PGCE application form.
