Non-Specialist Teachers Teaching Games

This action packed, one-day training course is aimed at providing non-specialist teachers with an essential tool kit to deliver effective and safe P.E. and Games lessons with confidence. The day will be filled with practical strategies that can be implemented straight away with classes of all ages. The course is suitable for both secondary and primary staff, as well as sports graduates who have no teacher training.

The course is run by experienced P.E. instructors and will equip participants with take-away materials and strategies that can be adapted for P.E. lessons and Coaching Teams.

Course Outline

Planning and delivering exciting PE lessons to ensure progress and wellbeing

  • The what, who & how of P.E. lesson planning
  • Basic teaching principles of games activities
  • Planning lessons to incorporate health-related fitness and promote an understanding of wellbeing

What you need to know about safety and management in PE

  • Useful information about clothing, equipment and playing areas
  • Having knowledge of Health and Safety requirements
  • How to manage groups and make the best use of space

Strategies and practical ideas that you can use straight away in your lessons

  • A range of activities that can be adapted across several sports
  • Understanding physical literacy
  • Different organisation formats and how to run small competitions

The cost of this course is £400.

Trainees applying for a place on a University of Buckingham PGCE will be able to apply for the Ab Initio course on the PGCE application form.
