Introduction to Teaching

Preparing for teacher training

The Introduction to Teaching course is best described as ‘pre-season training’, and is recommended for PGCE and QTS trainees who have not taught before, as well as new teachers in independent and maintained schools.

The course inducts teachers into the profession and provides a toolkit for their first six weeks in post. A trainee’s first half-term with sole responsibility for classes and their pupils’ progress is demanding, so this course enables teachers to effectively prepare with confidence for the challenges and workload ahead.

The course has been planned with The University of Buckingham Faculty of Education, but is delivered through Anspear, a company that works with Buckingham to deliver courses online.

Practical tips and strategies

The course includes five short, engaging and highly practical online self-study modules that give the freedom to study where and when you want.

The modules cover:

  • First steps in teaching
  • Planning and teaching your first lesson
  • Behaviour management basics
  • Beginner’s guide to safeguarding
  • Being a teaching professional

The course will be available from April 2024 and costs £120.

Whilst the course is primarily aimed at candidates who have never taught before, it is also beneficial to those who would like to revisit the fundamentals of teaching.
