Graduation 2016: University of Buckingham Honorary Graduates

Graduation 2016The first graduation with Sir Anthony Seldon as Vice-Chancellor was a spectacular success with students coming from all corners of the world to be rewarded for the fruits of their hard work.

The Honorary Graduates were TV presenter Jeremy Paxman, Founder of Travelex Lloyd Dorman, The Rt Hon the Lord Judge and Fred Westmoreland.

Sir Anthony Seldon said: “You are one of a small group of people who are lucky enough to have a degree from one of the top universities in the world. The University of Buckingham is celebrating its 40th anniversary and that is a wonderful achievement. We are one of the most famous private universities.”

Journalist Jeremy Paxman presented Newsnight for 25 years and is currently a Contributing Editor at the Financial Times. He has written ten books and made many documentaries.

Lloyd Dorfman, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, is the Founder and President of the Travelex Group, which he sold in 2014. He is Chairman and majority shareholder of The Office Group. In 2014 he co-founded and became Chairman of Doddle, a business which enables sellers to despatch, and buyers to collect and return, their online shopping.

He is Chairman of both the Prince’s Trust and Prince’s Trust International and is a Trustee of charities including the Royal Opera House and the Royal Academy Trust. In 2008, Lloyd Dorfman was appointed CBE for services to business and charity.

Igor Judge was a High Court Judge, Queen’s Bench Division, and received a Knighthood. In 2008 he was appointed Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and Head of the Judiciary of England and Wales. He was later created a life Peer. In 2015 Lord Judge was appointed Chief Surveillance Commissioner. In 2014, with Anthony Alridge QC, Lord Judge was the author of Magna Carta Uncovered and in 2015, a collection of his lectures and speeches The Safest Shield, was published.

Fred Westmoreland spent six years service in Germany with the British Army of the Rhine, interrupted by a tour of duty in Northern Ireland, before returning to the UK as a recruit instructor. In 1977 he was appointed as a staff instructor at the Royal Artillery’s training college at Larkhill. In 1991, having retired, he was elected to the local council in Amesbury. His spare time is spent promoting the archaeology and history of Amesbury.
