Registering with the Police
Students from outside the Commonwealth and the European Community who are admitted for longer than six months are normally required to register with the police within seven days of arrival. Failure to register with the police, if required to do so, is a criminal offence.
Students who are required to register with the police have to email Thames Valley police at OVRO@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk to arrange to complete an online registration and attend the local police station for an appointment, where you will receive your certificate. In your email to Thames Valley police, you have to provide the following details:
- your name
- your date of birth
- your place of work or study
- your UK address
- your contact telephone number
If you need a certificate urgently, please let Thames Valley Police know so can they prioritise your registration.
The registration is valid for the duration of your leave to remain and should be renewed every time an extension is granted. The fee, at present £34.00, will be charged for the initial registration certificate, but there is no charge for renewal.
Once registered with the police you must inform the police within seven days of any change of address, or within eight days of a change of your conditions of stay being made.
If you are required to register with the police, you should submit your police registration certificate along with the other documentation when applying for an extension of your leave to remain.
