Finalist Prizes 2005
The Edgar Palamountain Award for Excellence
In 1993, a solid Gold Medal, ‘The Edgar Palamountain Award for Excellence‘, was instituted in memory of Edgar Palamountain, Chairman of the Council at Buckingham from 1979 to 1984. The award is given every year to the undergraduate who is judged ‘first among equals’.
“Like many people, the idea of completing a 3-year degree in 2 years first drew me to The University of Buckingham. It was the multicultural environment and constant buzz on campus that kept me intrigued and captivated during my brief time there. The dedication and knowledge of the staff at the Law School encouraged me to think of every possible legal query and answer and completely fascinated me. It was their dedication in teaching the course that provoked me to dedicate myself to getting the best results academically. I truly enjoyed my time at Buckingham and would recommend this University to anyone.
A day of high note for me was when I received the Edward Palamountain Award for Excellence. This prize came unexpectedly and I am still humbled for having received a prize that has declared me’first among equals’.”
Estena Natalia Newbold, Law with Spanish 2005
The Dame Barbara Shenfield Award
In 2005, a solid Gold Medal, ‘The Dame Barbara Shenfield Award‘, was instituted in memory of Dame Barbara Shenfield, a founder member of the University’s Council. The award will be made annually to the postgraduate who is judged to have achieved the best overall performance
of the year.
“My time in Buckingham was one of the most valuable stages in my life. This was due not only to the multicultural environment, but also the very interesting topics discussed in the courses of the MSc in Service Management programme which appealed and eventually fascinated me.
The most memorable day for me was when I received the Dame Barbara Shenfield Award for Excellence. This prize has proven what I have already learned before in my Service Management courses: our quality of work is inevitably linked to our intrinsic motivation.”
Minh Hien Nguyen, MSc Service Management 2005
