Cyberpsychology intricately explores human interaction with technology and its impact on our behaviour.
Cyberpsychology helps us to answer:
- Why do people behave differently in online environments?
- How has technology enhanced opportunities to connect with others?
- What are the different online risks for young and old generations? And what can we do about it?
- How can we use different technology (e.g., robots, AI) for good?
Throughout Buckingham’s MSc Cyberpsychology, you’ll engage in weekly small-group tutorials with your module tutor, with in-depth and thought-provoking discussions on various topics that enhance your communication skills. You will also acquire subject topic-specific knowledge and develop research methods skills that you will apply on a supervised dissertation research project of your choosing. The programme has a focus on applicability, so you will be developing skills that will be relevant for future employability.

Course breakdown
On the taught MSc Cyberpsychology, you will start the year by developing your understanding around main concepts, theories and debates in Cyberpsychology, alongside a good understanding of Research Methods and their applicability.
This will prepare you for starting your own supervised dissertation research project that you will develop until the end of the degree, alongside topic-specific areas that will develop a range of key skills pivotal for a Cyberpsychologist.

Teaching and assessment
We keep class sizes small so you won’t get lost in the crowd. You will be assigned a personal tutor to support you every step of the way, and our academic and student support teams will ensure you have the tools to success in your studies. We value the quality of your learning experience.
Teaching methods
On the taught MSc Cyberpsychology, you will receive high quality teaching using our unique tutorial teaching model. You will have lectures with your whole cohort, seminars of varying sizes, and weekly tutorials with a maximum of seven students in total.
During your Research project in Cyberpsychology, you will be supervised by a staff member that will help you in developing your project with regular supervision meetings up until the final step of research report submission.
Our academic staff teach three terms out of four, with the remaining term used for research and scholarly activity. Because of this, we have no difficulty in attracting high calibre, highly respected lecturers. The University of Buckingham lecturers enjoy spending time with students because they all teach within our tutorial teaching model. It is also the philosophy of Buckingham’s staff to be available to students outside the scheduled tutorial times and to encourage good working relationships between staff and students.
All our degrees combine academic rigour with the transferable skills that will stand you in good stead for future employment. The Buckingham tutorial teaching model means that our students are better prepared than other students to discuss their ideas and communicate their understanding of Cyberpsychology.
This degree is taught completely at our Buckingham campus.
Assessment Methods
The assessment of individual modules within each course varies.
You will have different types of assessments that will allow you to develop a range of skills:
• Coursework (e.g. essay)
• Portfolio
• Presentations.
After your course
Once you have graduated, you can pursue further study at PhD level in an area of interest in Cyberpsychology. You will also have the opportunity to pursue careers in the industry or academic roles where expertise in Cyberpsychology is desired.

The standard entry requirements for this course are: 2:1 in an undergraduate Psychology degree, or a closely related degree with an understanding of psychology research methods and statistics awarded by a UK University or overseas equivalent.
