Psychology PhD Student Presents Final Research Study at BPS POWES 2025

2 September 2025

PhD in Psychology student, Kathryn Gilfoyle, from The University of Buckingham’s School of Psychology recently presented her research at the 2025 BPS Psychology of Women and Equalities Section (POWES) Conference, held in Oxford.

This marked the second time Kathryn has shared her work at the prestigious annual event. Her presentation focused on the third and final study of her PhD, titled: Non-consensual sexual image sharing and victim-blaming: A feminist exploration of women’s choices, engaging men’s attention and perceived sexual agency online.

Reflecting on the experience, Kathryn said:

“I was grateful to present my PhD research with The University of Buckingham School of Psychology for the second time at the BPS Psychology of Women and Equalities Section conference in Oxford this year.

I presented the third and final study of my PhD; Non-consensual sexual image sharing and victim-blaming: A feminist exploration of women’s choices, engaging men’s attention and perceived sexual agency online.

It was a wonderful event to exchange knowledge, build connections with other academics and listen to such insightful research whilst being in such a supportive atmosphere!

I particularly enjoyed hearing about other research surrounding consent communication, expressions of sexual agency and victim-blaming attitudes, which are central concepts to my own work. The POWES conference was a brilliant opportunity to learn from fellow feminist researchers, which I will take with me through my final stages of my PhD.”

The School of Psychology congratulates Kathryn on this achievement and celebrates her contribution to important conversations in feminist psychology and digital ethics.
