Computing student presents at 2025 Medical Image Understanding and Analysis Conference
18 November 2025
Ethan Caldeira, PhD Computing student, presented his latest research titled, ‘Evaluating an Ensemble Stochastic Parcellation Method for Autism Spectrum Disorder Classification using 3D CNNs’ at the 2025 Medical Image Understanding and Analysis (MIUA) Conference held at the University of Leeds.
MIUA is a UK-based international conference allowing researchers to share advancements in medical image processing, analysis and applications.
Reflecting on his research and the conference, Ethan said:
“My research focused on the impact different brain atlases have on the classification of autism spectrum disorder using deep learning models. Our findings serve as an interesting foundation to build my future research upon. It was a great learning experience to share my work and connect with others within the medical imaging and artificial intelligence fields, which has left me feeling both excited and motivated to further my research. Huge thank you to the organisers for running an engaging event.”
Ethan’s PhD is supervised by Dr Hisham Al Assam, Reader in Computing, and Dr Maysson Ibrahim, Senior Lecturer in Computing.
The University is proud to support its research students in sharing their work with the wider academic community. Through dedicated funding and development opportunities, PhD researchers are encouraged to present at leading national and international conferences, gaining valuable feedback, visibility, and professional experience. This commitment helps ensure that emerging scholars can showcase their findings and contribute to global research conversations.
