Computing Taster

About our Computing Tasters

Join us online to discover what it’s like to be a Computing student at Buckingham!

Taster Theme

Each taster includes a themed session, so you can experience what it is like to attend a Computing tutorial.

This taster’s theme is: Can AI save lives?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, especially deep learning, have significantly influenced a wide range of fields, including Medical Image Analysis. Techniques like convolutional neural networks and transformers enable AI to extract meaningful features from medical images such as MRI, ultrasound, CT scans, and X-rays, allowing the development of highly accurate diagnostic models. In recent years, these AI-driven systems have shown great effectiveness in detecting various types of cancer at early stages, achieving diagnostic performance comparable to that of human specialists. By supporting clinicians with faster and more precise diagnoses, these tools contribute to timely and more effective treatments, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and quality of life.

Discover Computing at Buckingham

In addition to the themed session, you will also:

  • Discover how our BCS accredited degree fast-tracks a grounding in developing a successful Computing career in as little as two years.
  • Find out about our state-of-the-art facilities including an extensive range of robotics including Boston Dynamic Spot, VR and AR equipment including the Birdly simulator, Cyber labs and Gaming labs.
  • Take part in a Q&A with a current student and member of staff, who will be online to chat and answer any of your questions.
  • Learn about our programme’s paid online and in-person micro-internships via the B-Enterprising scheme.
  • Find out about our tutorial teaching model, two entry points, and specialisms available to study in:
