Supervisors provide tailored guidance, regular feedback, and support in developing rigorous methodologies to ensure the research meets publishable academic standards. Weekly meetings foster continuous progress and intellectual development.
Progression and Research Presentation
Although the programme does not include formal taught modules, you are encouraged to audit selected Level 7 courses—such as Financial Reporting and Analysis and Empirical Techniques in Finance—to deepen their conceptual and analytical expertise.
At the end of each term, all students present their research progress in a formal academic setting, allowing them to mark progression and to refine their work through peer and faculty feedback.
Assessment Methods
Independent Research Dissertation
You will complete an original dissertation of approximately 25,000 to 30,000 words, critically engaging with literature and applying appropriate methodologies to address a focused research question. Dissertations may use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods, depending on the nature of the inquiry.
The dissertation is evaluated by two independent markers—one internal and one external. There is no viva voce examination unless required by the Faculty Research Committee.
There are no assessed taught components. You are expected to design and undertake a sustained piece of independent research in accounting, supported by one-to-one academic supervision.
