Torben Kuseler, Professor Agaian, Dr Al-Jawad and Professor Jassim

For the fifth year, the “Mobile Multimedia / Image Processing, Security, and Applications” session of the SPIE Defense, Security and Sensing conference, held on 5-9 April 2010 at Orlando, Florida, was chaired jointly by Professor Sabah Jassim of Buckingham and Professor Sos Agaian of the University of Texas at San Antonio. The Applied Computing Department at Buckingham was again a main contributor to the conference, presenting four full papers and two posters, and thereby raising the University’s international research reputation and strengthening the Department’s research profile. The presented papers were authored by a number of academic staff and research students: Professor Sabah Jassim, Professor Chris Adams, Dr Naseer Al-Jawad, Dr Harin Sellahewa, Dr Ihsan Lami, Mr Ahmad Hassanat, Mr Ali Abboud, Mr Torben Kuseler and Mr Safa Al-Tekreeti. The research investigations reported in these papers covered a range of areas including: image qualities; multi-biometrics for authentication on mobile devices; lip detection for lip reading; visual word recognition; networking.
