Computing Industry Mentoring Networking
Buckingham Computing Industry Mentoring Network (BCIMN) provides final-year Computing undergraduates (undergraduates in year 2 of our two-year accelerated degree) with access to one-to-one industry mentoring. Mentors are drawn from alumni, members of our Industry Advisory Board, and other partners from industry.
The network’s purpose is to give students lived experience and sector knowledge through personalised contact with industry professionals and alumni who can inspire, motivate, and provide practical career insights.
What does mentoring offer?
The primary focus of mentoring is to offer:
- Personal connection with a professional in industry
- Motivation and confidence, particularly for students from underrepresented groups
- Role modelling and relatability, showing how others have overcome similar challenges
- Clarity in career direction and real-world perspective on employability skills.
“In just 30 minutes of conversation, she helped me get back on track and feel more motivated in my studies… She shared her journey with me, and hearing from a woman who faced the same struggles, working to pay her fees while studying at the same time, meant so much.
It made me feel seen and gave me the boost I truly needed. She also helped me gain clarity about my goals and what I want to pursue after this undergraduate degree.” – Undergraduate Computing student
