Grand Challenge Project: 24-hour Hackathon

Starting at 2pm on Wednesday 19 November, a group of final-year Computing undergraduate students immersed themselves in a 24-hour hackathon, designing innovative solutions to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year, teams focused on solutions for Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy and Life on Land. The collaboration, creativity and commitment shown by every team were truly impressive.

Academics and students in the OTM enjoying a celebratory lunch after the Grand Challenge Project The hackathon was part of the Grand Challenge Project module, completed in the final term of the BSc Computing and BSc Computing AI & Robotics programmes. Students will continue developing and refining their projects throughout the term, with final outcomes to be presented on 11 December 2025.

This year’s Grand Challenge Project hackathon and prizes are sponsored by iGaming, a global leader in the online gaming and entertainment industry. iGaming is dedicated to delivering high-quality gaming experiences while championing inclusivity, innovation, and responsible gaming practices.

A huge well done to all the students who took part in the 24-hour hackathon. It was fantastic to see students fully engaged and enjoying working on their projects.
