Buckingham the safest place to study in England and Wales, analysis by TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk reveals.
Students at The University of Buckingham are in the most crime-free environment in England and Wales, according to a national survey of student-relevant offences.
Compiled from official police data, the ranking gives the clearest picture possible of the crime rates for the communities surrounding almost 140 universities and other higher education institutions in England and Wales.
University of Buckingham Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Alistair Alcock said: “We are delighted that Buckingham is the safest university campus. We know that being safe is one of the reasons we consistently score so well for student satisfaction in the annual National Student Survey (NSS). Students feel welcome in the town of Buckingham and the police do a good job helping to make it a safe and enjoyable place to live and work.”
Official data for crimes directly involving students are not available so TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk has selected three crimes – burglary, robbery and violent and sexual offences – as of particular relevance to students. The ranking is based on the cumulative rate of all three crimes occurring over 12 months within three miles of each university’s main campus.
