A special issue of the Journal of Expertise devoted to Dr Kathryn Friedlander’s book, The Psychology of Creative Performance and Expertise (Routledge, August 2024), has now been published. You can view the Special Issue online.

Front cover of the Journal of ExpertiseCovering a wide range of domains, from mind games and creative writing to STEM and the performing arts, the book offers a systematic attempt to integrate theories of creativity and expertise into a unified account of exceptional performance.

The special issue includes Dr Friedlander’s précis of the book, invited commentaries from leading scholars across the fields of creativity and expertise, and Dr Friedlander’s response. Together, the contributions explore the interplay between creativity and expertise and outline directions for future research on the origins and underpinnings of human achievement.

Dr Friedlander is a lecturer in Psychology at The University of Buckingham where leads the innovative module Creative Performance and Expertise (since 2014), and her research examines expertise development and motivational drivers in cognitive and creative performance, alongside supervising MSc and PhD projects in these areas.
