Sports

The University’s Sport and Fitness programme offers students of all abilities the chance to compete or simply have fun with sport. As members of British Universities & Colleges Sport, there are also opportunities for individuals to compete at varsity level in a variety of championships throughout the year. Opportunities exist to participate in a number of team sports, both on and off campus. However, if team sports aren’t for you then you might prefer to work out in our fully-equipped gym or take an exercise class, have a game of squash or badminton, or any of over a dozen other sporting activities that we offer. The University’s sports field is equipped with a floodlit training area, sports pavilion and changing facilities. There is also access to an all-weather pitch for all-year round activities.

Varsity Sports Competition

Buckingham has competed  against close neighbour Cranfield University in the annual Varsity Competition since 2013. The results have been:

  • 2013: Cranfield 5 Buckingham 4
  • 2014: Cranfield 5 Buckingham 3
  • 2015: Cranfield 5 Buckingham 2

61 students travelled to Cranfield to play the 3rd annual Varsity Competition on 2 August 2015. The two universities competed across a range of sports: table tennis, badminton, basketball, tennis, cricket, 11-a-side football and touch rugby.  Cranfield won 5-2; Buckingham’s points came from table tennis and touch rugby.  There were a lot of positives for Buckingham: the re-formation of the Cricket Club, the camaraderie of the Badminton Club, and the masterclass from the Rugby Club. Next year we hope to have even more students competing! Read a full report by Callum Roberts (PDF file, 41 KB).

Participative sports

MK Lacrosse

They have both men’s and women’s sections, both are small so we are looking for new players. The men’s team should be entering the English Southern League (http://www.southlacrosse.org.uk) in October provided they can attract a few more players over the summer. The women’s section is just training at the moment, often mixed lacrosse training with the men.  They train throughout the year at various venues in Milton Keynes. Their website has the details: www.mklacrosse.co.uk.
