Professional portrait photograph of Dr Brian PendukaDr Brian Penduka joined The University of Buckingham as a Lecturer in Law, after close to twenty years working in human rights, law, and development. He holds a LLBs (Hons) from the University of Zimbabwe, an LLM in Human Rights from the University of South Africa, and a PhD in Law from the University of Buckingham, where he also served as a Visiting Lecturer, teaching subjects such as Constitutional and Administrative Law and International Human Rights Law.

Dr Penduka’s extensive practical experience includes serving as a Commissioner for the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, a pivotal role in which he contributed directly to the protection and promotion of human rights in the country. Previously, Dr Penduka was a Senior Legal Advisor for the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), where he played a key role in implementing Zimbabwe’s first justice reform programme and fostering the re-engagement of the judiciary. He has also contributed significantly as a Research and Policy Analyst Consultant for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), notably developing an Access to Justice Programme for rural communities in Zimbabwe. He has also conducted extensive research for various international and national bodies on critical issues such as Human Rights, constitutional reform, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and judicial independence.

Dr Penduka’s current research interests encompass the rights and welfare of migrants and individuals in contact with the law.
