Photograph of Bethany KellyBethany began her teaching career at a school near Cambridge, teaching Ancient Church History to somewhat reluctant sixth formers.  After a few years, she went on to be a Head of Department in a leading London girls’ school. Alongside teaching responsibilities Bethany has been a philosophy examiner, represented Education on the City of London Drugs Committee and also had a stint as chair of the Independent Schools Religious Studies Association, organising national conferences at Chelsea Football Club.

After 10 successful years of middle leadership, Bethany moved into senior leadership with deputy headships covering both pastoral and academic responsibilities. Particular areas of interest during those years included mentoring PGCE trainee teachers and early career teachers, staff development, and establishing leadership groups. Bethany completed her MA in Education focusing on Leadership and Management and then went on to complete her Doctorate looking at Leadership, Identity and Gender. Since then Bethany has gone on to present papers at a number of conferences, on different areas of research including Teacher Educator Identity and Leadership. Bethany is also currently a Trustee of BELMAS (British Educational Leadership, Management and Administration Society).

Whilst working on her Doctorate, Bethany joined Buckingham as a tutor, looking after large groups of trainee teachers all over the UK. Bethany went onto to be the Head of Secondary before taking up the post of Director of Programmes. Bethany now oversees the Teacher Education programmes along with the range of Masters courses in the Education Faculty, and the EdD programme.
