Press Release: The University of Buckingham welcomes The Right Honourable John Bercow MP to give public lecture

The University of Buckingham welcomes back The Right Honourable John Bercow, MP to give another public lecture on Tuesday 29 September entitled: ‘The Local MP and the National Office.’

John Bercow has been MP for Buckingham since 1997. He is a member of the International Development Select Committee and has previously been Conservative Opposition Spokesman for Education and Employment, Work and Pensions, and Home Affairs.

John Bercow has also served as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Shadow Secretary of State for International Development. In 2005 John was The House magazine’s ‘Backbencher of the Year’.

In September 2007, John was appointed by Ed Balls, Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, to lead a review of services for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs. The final report of the Review was published in July 2008. On 22 June 2009, John was elected the 157th Speaker of the House of Commons.

All are welcome to attend this lecture that will begin at 18:30 and held in the IFLH, Chandos Road Building. Admission to this lecture is free, but donations are welcomed. Drinks will be served in seminar rooms 4&5 following the lecture for all those who would like to stay for a short time of informal discussion.
