Professors Arch and Cawthorne to speak at National Diabetes Conference
7 January 2009
The 10th National Diabetes conference entitled “The Diabetes Epidemic” will be held in London on 22 and 23 January 2009. Diabetes is now a major problem in the UK affecting approximately 5% of the adult population. The 2006 Health Survey for England showed that two thirds of the adult population were obese or overweight and it is this obesity that is fuelling the diabetes epidemic.
Professor Jon Arch, will speak on ‘Pharmacological management of obesity: is there a better future?’. Professor Mike Cawthorne will give a talk entitled ‘Glitazones revisited’ in which he will discuss recent clinical studies and suggest that glitazones have a major role in preventing the development of diabetes in susceptible individuals.
