Find out what it is really like to be a student at the University of Buckingham here.
The Law Society
Established over two decades ago, the University of Buckingham Law Society continues to be an integral part of student life for the many law students who pass through these hallowed halls. The Law Degree programme is intense but the Law Society is committed to striking that essential balance between academics and social networking in order that students may enjoy a more well-rounded experience during their time here at this prestigious institution.
The Executive Board of the Law Society consists of a group of enthusiastic students from all walks of life who have come together to make their mark on the Society’s legacy. The diversity that each team member brings to the Board adds value to the Society as a whole. This phenomenal mix of talent is dedicated to making meaningful contributions to the Society during our tenure. We aim to bring students together and provide opportunities to create lasting relationships with other students and legal professionals during this, the developmental stages of their future careers.
The Law Society organises various events during the year including Mooting and Negotiation Workshops and Competitions to help students develop their advocacy skills, trips to the Inns of Court so that students can begin to appreciate the aristocratic traditions of the legal profession, and Master Class lectures to afford students the opportunity to interact with practising barristers who are experts in their respective areas of law. One of our most eagerly anticipated events on our calendar is the annual Law Ball which gets bigger and better every year! The event is always a great success and with legal professionals and former alumni in attendance, it is also a great way to network and build social skills.
There are several other projects that we encourage students to get involved in such as Professor Judith Bray’s Street Legal Placement Scheme, the Citizens Advice Bureau, and the Buckingham Student Law Review. These are excellent platforms to hone the skills essential not only to becoming a barrister or solicitor but for any career in the legal profession. We encourage every student to make the most of their time here at the University of Buckingham. Between lectures, tutorials, and other activities, there is never a dull moment and each activity will bring you closer to realising your goal. Take advantage of the opportunities before you. Our advice is that you master the ancient art of time management and get involved.
On behalf of the Law Society Executive Board we welcome you to the University of Buckingham, and we look forward to helping you make your university experience a memorable one!
