Return of the Wellbeing Walk after last year’s success

19 February 2019

Following the success of the last year’s Wellbeing Walk, Town and Gown are coming together for a second “walk and talk” around scenic Buckingham to discuss what more can be done to improve our community’s wellbeing.

The theme for the 2019 Wellbeing Walk is “What more can we do to ensure that we and our community have great mental wellbeing, brimming with imagination, learning and friendship?”

It has been arranged by Buckingham Mayor Jon Harvey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buckingham Sir Anthony Seldon and Buckinghamshire High Sheriff Ruth Farwell and all are invited to attend.

The walk will be held on Sunday 24 March starting outside of Waitrose at 11:30am, finishing at the Vinson Centre at around 13:30pm.

Local police cadets, scouts and guides will help with marshalling the walk safely across the roads along the way.

Anyone who knows, cares or can do something to help build greater wellbeing for the locals of Buckingham is welcome.

Sir Anthony Seldon, who was the first to introduce wellbeing lessons in schools a decade ago, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring together Town and Gown to discuss such an important issue. It was a lovely event last year with people from the local community and further afield sharing really interesting ideas to help benefit wellbeing.”

Town Mayor, Cllr Jon Harvey said: “Once again, I am looking forward to welcoming everyone to this event that I know will help build our local joined-up conversations around mental health and well-being. These conversations can then lead to robust improvements and better health for all.”

High Sheriff, Ruth Farwell said: “I am so pleased to be co-hosting this event in Buckingham with the Town’s Mayor and the University’s Vice Chancellor. Well-being is an essential element in building harmonious and peaceful communities which prevent crime and that is an important message for me to promote as High Sheriff.”
