How many guest tickets can I apply for?

Space for the Graduation Ceremony is limited and students are permitted a maximum of two (2) guest tickets. These tickets include entry to the Church and the Graduation Reception (Lunch, Afternoon Tea or Dinner, depending on the time of your Ceremony) in the marquee following the Ceremony. Tickets for both the Graduation Ceremony and the Reception in the marquee are free of charge.

Graduates are limited to two guest tickets each. If you have any extenuating circumstances, please email Rebecca Taylor-Hayward on or after 1 February 2017 (when the online confirmation has closed).

Signing-in

You must sign-in with the Registry in the Chandos Road Building on Graduation day. You cannot be presented to the Chancellor unless you have done so.

Tickets can be collected in person at the times stated above and admission to the Ceremony and Graduation Reception is strictly by ticket only, for graduands and guests. It is important that you confirm your attendance to avoid disappointment.

Chandos Road Building is approximately 10-15 minutes walk from the Church where the Ceremony will be held. A regular mini-bus shuttle will run between the Church and Chandos Road Building.

Please ensure that you arrive at the Church at least 30 minutes before your Ceremony is due to start.

If your guests are arriving separately, please ask them to meet you in the Chandos Road Building where tea, coffee and soft drinks and toilet facilities are available.

Will my guests be seated together?

Every effort will be made to seat family groups together. However, seating in the Church is strictly on a first come, first served basis. No children under the age of 5 will be permitted in the Church. They are however welcome in the marquee for the reception following the Ceremonies.

Special access requirements

If you or any of your guests have a disability or special access requirements then please let the Graduation Office know in advance.

The Ceremony

Please stand when the Academic Procession enters the nave at the start of the Ceremony.

During the Ceremony each graduand will be presented to the University Chancellor, The Hon Lady Keswick. When it is your turn to receive your degree, one of the Marshals will ask you to rise and move quietly towards the front of the Church. Please watch the Marshals so that you are ready to leave your seat when asked.

When your name is called, walk forward, mount the platform and approach the Chancellor. She will shake your hand and may say a few words to you. A photograph will be taken of you and the Chancellor at this point, so turn slightly to your right. Dismount the steps and walk down the centre aisle to the back of the Church. A member of staff will guide you to where to collect your Certificate and back to your seat.

At the end of the Ceremony, process out of the Church, following the Academic Procession, leaving by the Tower Door. Once outside the Church please move clear of the door, so that the exit from the Church is not obstructed. Graduates and guests should then make their way to the marquee on Beloff Lawn.

Late arrival

It is regretted that latecomers will not be permitted to collect their academic dress or participate in the Ceremony. No admittance to the Church will be permitted once the Ceremony has started. It will not be possible to admit graduands to the Church if they have not signed in with Registry in the Chandos Road Building and collected their academic dress prior to the Ceremony.
