Lecturer in English Language

Alison Smith, Lecturer in English at the University of Buckingham's English Department, 6th best in the UK

Alison is an expert in English language and English language teaching, with over forty years’ experience. She speaks both Spanish and French, and has a good understanding of Catalan. For many years she was Director of the Dublin School in Barcelona, one of the city’s oldest and most famous language schools, where many politicians, musicians and tv personalities have learnt their English. Her time there was followed by freelance teaching in Caixa, Cruz Roja and La Vanguardia. She then taught in ESADE Ramon Llull University. Alison took up her lectureship in the Department of English at Buckingham in 1998. Her role is teaching based. Her main concern is that students have the English language skills to be able to face any situation that they may find themselves in.  As A.P. Herbert succinctly said, “Worry about words. For whatever else you may do, you will be using words always.”
