Laura Purser

Laura started working with Buckingham as Assistant Director of Teacher Training in 2016 and have since lead both the Primary and Prep PGCE courses and designed/led the NASENCO course, training Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators. Laura delivers a wide range of teaching pedagogy as well as focus on inclusive practice, mental health, balancing stress/workload, trauma/attachment informed practice and increasing self-esteem and efficacy in schools. With a background in Psychology and Counselling, she is also the point of contact for trainees who need emotional support, providing advice on developing positive mental health and well-being. Prior to this Laura worked in both independent and state sectors across both primary and secondary ranges from teacher to SEND leadership.

Laura is currently undertaking her Practitioner Doctorate of Education by Professional Record (EdD) here at the University of Buckingham, exploring interpersonal neurobiology and psychological approaches in initial teacher education. In particular, considering the impact on child mental health and well-being through teacher development of emotional regulation strategies, sense of self concept and trauma attachment sensitive approaches that promote positive behaviour practices and policies in schools.

Laura aspires to ensure that all teacher training develops quality inclusive teachers who put children at the heart of their practice.
