Emma joined Buckingham as COO and University Secretary in September 2018. Emma was formerly Academic Registrar at the University of Oxford, where she led all of the professional services in support of the student experience, from admissions and recruitment through to graduation. She undertook a number of other roles at Oxford since her arrival there in 2006, including Director of Student Administration and Services; a key part of her role was as Programme Sponsor for the institution-wide Student Systems Programme. Prior to that, she developed her career in University administration over 17 years at University College London, specialising in examination administration, education policy, student systems development and process review.
Emma’s role at Buckingham provides operational leadership and management support to ensure that the University has the necessary operational and business plans, controls, leadership accountability, systems and processes, infrastructure and reporting procedures to deliver an ambitious set of academic goals. She liaises closely with the wider academic leadership of Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Deans to support the implementation of Buckingham’s academic strategy. She also works with the Chair of Council to ensure that effective governance systems and processes are in place to guide the University’s development and to provide governance oversight.
Emma holds a MusB degree from the University of Manchester and is a member of the Association of Heads of University Administration (AHUA).
