Laura joined the University of Buckingham as the Assistant Director of Teacher Training and developed the role of Head of Primary. Prior to taking the role, Laura was Head of Learning Support, SENCO and Inclusion Lead across a range of Primary and Secondary schools with experience in both State and Independent sectors.
Laura started her career in education as a Primary Teacher and moved into Secondary as a Psychology Teacher before getting into SEND and contributing to achieving the Inclusion Quality Mark and acting as a consultant for schools in the London Borough of Redbridge. Laura supported a number of schools and developed an initiative for building ‘Partnerships between TAs and Teachers’ and developing a coaching/mentoring model of self-efficacy to guide pupils in both academic achievements and supporting positive well-being.
Laura’s role has continued to develop at Buckingham to allow for her range of skills to be utilised to support our PGCE trainees. Laura has designed and will be leading the master’s level NASENCO course, training SENCOs for accreditation. With a background in Psychology and Counselling, Laura will also be the point of contact for trainees who may need emotional support, providing advice on developing positive mental health and well-being.
A new musical theatre enthusiast, Laura directs and performs in a professional theatre company catering to entertaining young children.
Laura aspires to ensure that all teacher training develops quality inclusive teachers who are person-centred and puts children at the heart of their practice.
