Justin Watts is a Head of Service Excellence at Lloyds Banking Group where he is responsible for the specific application of System Thinking to the digital development and end to end transformations of customer journeys. Before this role, Justin worked as a Senior CI manager in insurance at Lloyds working on applying the Vanguard method to household claims operations and supply chain. He is currently using his financial services and systems thinking background to complete his PhD.
Prior to joining Lloyds Justin worked in manufacturing for 10 years with SCA now DS Smith and Burtons Foods. During this time Justin worked as a CI facilitator and group manager implementing a Lean programme across Europe for SCA working with Mckinsey and co and a group-wide improvement programme for Burtons foods. Justin has experience of using TWI, Six sigma, Lean and TPM in different manufacturing situations. Justin specialised in reinventing Factory scheduling at SCA using the factory Physics framework he used this as the basis of his Masters dissertation.
Justin also supplemented his improvement roles by holding several management positions whilst working in manufacturing.
Justin’s education is ongoing as he studies for a PhD at the University of Buckingham following completion of his MSc in Business Research. He also holds a distinction in MSc in Lean Operations obtained through LERC at Cardiff Business. He is a certified Six Sigma Blackbelt and TWI trainer for Job instruction.
Justin is a Visiting Lecturer on both the MSc Lean Enterprise and has co-developed modules for the BSc Operational Excellence Online.
Justin has authored publications in the SPAR journal, Lean Management Journal and other books including input for – Systems Thinking: From Heresy to Practice: Public and Private Sector Studies.
