Alumni Referral Programme – Terms and conditions

Purpose
The purpose of this Programme is to recognise and reward alumni who refer new students to the University.

Period
This programme will initially be open between 1/5/2020 and 31/1/2021 and will be reviewed throughout this period. The University of Buckingham (‘the University’) may decide to extend the above period and/or amend the terms and conditions at any time.

Eligibility criteria for participants
Referrers
The Programme is open to all alumni of the University who have successfully graduated from a full-time or part-time programme.
Some alumni may be excluded from applying (see below for who is not eligible to participate).

Referred Students
Referred Students must be new students who have not previously applied to, enquired about or enrolled on any University programme (i.e. not already be in the University of Buckingham database of active and prospective students or alumni).

Referred Students must identify their alumni Referrer upon application to the University via our direct application form. Applicants applying via agents or UCAS are not eligible.

Referred Students must be international students, and can come from any EU or non-EU country. International and EU/EEA status is dictated by the fee category of the applicant. (Applicants classified as UK Home students or exchange students are not eligible.)

If you want to refer new students who are based in Pakistan, please contact the International Recruitment team at international@buckingham.ac.uk

Referred Students need to enrol on to a degree or accredited course lasting 12 months or longer at the University: this includes undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research, full-time or part-time programmes.

To qualify for a reward, Referred Students must successfully register onto to their chosen programme, and pay their deposit and the first instalment of tuition fees.

The University is not liable to make a payment in the event that a Referred Student is not offered a place on a course or chooses not to accept an offer.

Who is not eligible to participate
Employees of the University (includes full-time, part-time and associate staff who are contracted to the University) are prohibited from participation as a Referrer or a Referred Student.

Referred Students who are employed by any organisation with whom the University has a corporate partnership agreement are excluded from participation in the Programme.

Recruitment Agents (i.e. individuals or representatives of organisations, acting in an agency capacity who generate income from identifying potential international students and facilitating their application and enrolment at education institutions) with whom the University has a working relationship or existing contractual agreement.

Referred Students who enrol at the University through an ‘agency’ will not be considered as valid referrals. By the word ‘agency’, we mean any organisation or individual agent which supports the recruitment of international students to the University and receives a commission for doing so. Note: Referred Students who subsequently take up the services of a recruitment agent after being referred as part of this Programme, would thereby invalidate a referral. (The University will ensure all Referred Students who apply and enrol are verified as non-agent students).

Rewards
Rewards for Referrers
Referrers will receive a financial reward of £150 (made via bank transfer) within three months of registration for each successfully Referred Student.

Referrers can choose to donate this reward (in part or in full) to the University’s Student Hardship Fund.

Referrers can make any number of applications under the Programme per academic year.

Reward payments for each successful referral application under the Programme may be subject to taxes according to the laws of the country of residence of the Referrer.

Donation to the Student Hardship Fund
Upon each successful referral, the University will donate £150 to the University of Buckingham Student Hardship Fund in the Referrer’s name. The fund will then be assigned to students in need, as outlined on the University’s website.

Conditions for the processing of a referral application
Referred Students must successfully register to study at the University.

Referred Students must come to the University unattached and not linked with any recruitment agency or partner institution or organisation.

The Referrer must not be in a dispute with or be indebted to the University.

Rewards are made to Referrers on a first-come-first-served basis (i.e. if a student is referred by more than one Referrer, the first referral will be deemed the only valid one).

Bank details of Referrers will be requested (and should be provided) to enable payment of a reward.

The University of Buckingham reserves the right to alter the terms and conditions of the Alumni Referral Programme, or withdraw this Programme, at any time.
