Desiman Scholarship for part-time law degree
Desiman Ltd are offering a scholarship to one student to undertake the four year part-time LLB (law degree) at the University of Buckingham. The Desiman Scholarship is offered to those who have completed their 6th form studies (IB or A-level) in the three years prior to September 2018, and are resident in Buckinghamshire (including Milton Keynes), Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire.
The Desiman Scholarship is worth £2,000 for each of the four years of the programme, leaving the student with only £1,600 to pay each year (total annual fees £3,600, so a total saving of £8,000 on total fees of £14,400). The successful candidate will remain eligible to apply for a student loan for the balance of the fees. The Desiman Scholar will also be allocated a professional mentor, to assist with career choices.
The part-time law degree (LLB) at Buckingham results in the award of a qualifying law degree (QLD). A QLD enables graduates to take the professional exams leading to qualification as a solicitor or a barrister. The programme lasts four years and the first term of the academic year begins in September 2018.
Dr James Slater, the Director of the part-time LLB programme, says: “Desiman Ltd and I are committed to widening participation in higher education and have created this new scholarship so that someone who might not otherwise be able to afford degree level studies is able to do so.”
The award of the scholarship will be decided upon three grounds: residence, work ethic and financial need. The residence requirement is that applicants should live in one of the following four counties: Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire.
Applicants should submit two documents: a curriculum vitae and a personal statement of no more than 800 words in which applicants explain why they believe they should receive the scholarship. In particular, the statement should explain why the financial assistance is required and why it is that the applicant wishes to pursue a law degree. The scholarship is NOT confined to those who wish to qualify as lawyers, but are interested in a law degree as a platform to a variety of careers, including the civil service, management and finance.
The deadline for submission is Friday 8 June 2018
Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview. Applicants who have further queries or would like an informal chat about the programme, or the scholarship, are encouraged to email Dr Slater: firstname.lastname@example.org.
