Choosing your course

Going on to Higher Education is a big step. There are about 250 university level institutions in the UK, offering well over 30,000 different courses. Deciding which course to apply for, at which university, is a daunting task! The best idea is to break down your decision-making process into easily manageable parts:

  • If you have decided which course you want to study, select all those
    universities that offer this course
  • Restrict your choice to those parts of the UK where you would like to be based
  • Do you want to be at a large university in a major town or city, or would you prefer a smaller institution where you can feel more of an individual?
  • Does the university you have selected have a single campus or will you be required to study at various locations requiring bus or car journeys. Will your accommodation be close to other student amenities or lecture halls? This may be important if you are on a budget, as you will need to allow for extra travel expenses
  • How long is the course? Is there a work placement as part of the programme? If you are selecting a vocationally oriented course you may wish to gain work experience alongside your studies. At Buckingham you will complete your degree in two years so can enter the workplace at least one year earlier
