The Centre for Automotive Management (CAM) at the University of Buckingham Business School was established in 2007 by Professor Peter N C Cooke, the KPMG Professor of Automotive Management, who heads the Centre. Visiting Fellows include Martin Haley (General Manager, Strategy and Corporate Development, BMW Financial Services Group, GB); Christopher Macgowan (former Chief Executive, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders; Chief Executive of BEN); and Colin Tourick (Colin Tourick & Associates Ltd; formerly Managing Director, CitiCapital Fleet).
CAM provides education and training tailored to the needs of the automotive industry and more specifically to individual companies. CAM also provides survey, research, consultancy and publication services to the industry, as well as stimulating debate and interest in emerging automotive industry issues via its series of Automotive Forums.
Consultancy & research
CAM has a thriving consultancy activity across a number of industry sectors. Some topics are highly sensitive commercially and precautions are always taken to protect data and client confidentiality. As well as its in-house expertise, CAM is able to call on the support of the Business School faculty, Visiting Fellows and industry specialists with whom the team has worked over many years.
CAM maintains close relations across the global automotive industry and enjoys a high profile in the press in both the UK and Europe. It is thus able to assist clients in gaining exposure and testing new products and services with targeted audiences.
Recent consultancy projects undertaken by members of the CAM Team include:
- Reviewing distribution strategy for a major OEM
- Advising a Venture Capital company with regard to an acquisition
- Due diligence on a major financial services acquisition
- Developing a Total Cost of Operation measurement tool
- Expert witness services in a civil action
- Independent competitor analysis
- Senior management & partners’ industry briefings
- Used car buyer strategic / historic analysis
A number of other commercially confidential projects have also been completed successfully.
Publications and surveys
The CAM Team has a strong record of surveys and publications and a number of projects are already in progress at Buckingham. These include:

CAM has a vigorous publication strategy, contributing chapters to books and regular articles to the business press and professional and technical journals. Faculty members also have regular columns in journals in Europe and the UK. They speak at industry conferences at home and abroad.
