What is PDF format?
Many of our online documents have been produced as PDF (Portable Document Format) files. The PDF format is based on the industry-standard PostScript® language and is designed to get around the difficulties of maintaining consistent presentation across different types of computer system and printer.
Our use of Adobe® Reader® helps to ensure that you are able to print off an exact copy of the document irrespective of the type of computer you are using. One of our key reasons for choosing Adobe Reader is that it is available for you to download completely free of charge.
How do I know if I have Adobe Reader installed?
You may already have Adobe Reader installed on your computer; the latest versions of some Web browsers come with the reader included or you may have installed it in the past it to view PDF documents on another Web site or CD -ROM.
In Netscape Navigator it is possible to view a list of all plugins by clicking on the "About Plug-ins" option in the "Help" menu. If Adobe Reader is installed it will be listed among them.
Alternatively just download the document to disk and then attempt to open it. If the document is represented by the default "flying Windows" icon and double-clicking it gives an "Open With" dialogue box then you do not have Adobe Reader installed - see " How do I get Adobe Reader? "
Why do I get an error message after clicking on the link to the document?
This probably means you do not have the reader installed, the exact error message differs between Web browsers (those for Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator are shown below). If you get an error message like this you should download Adobe Reader and then try to access the document again (See " How do I get Adobe Reader? " below).

Can I download the document now
and get Adobe Reader later?
or... Can I save the document straight to disk?
Certainly, just save the relevant file to disk.
In Windows you can do this by right-clicking on the link and
selecting "Save Target As.." or "Save Link As..." from the
menu which appears. You can then choose the desired location from
the "Save As..." dialogue and click the "Save" button to start
downloading the file
How do I get Adobe Reader?
Adobe Reader is available completely free of charge. Our documents are best viewed in Adobe Reader version 4 or higher, click the button below to go to the Adobe website and get it now (external link) .
Why does the document look unclear on screen / when printed out?
If the document does not display properly, either on screen or printed out, you should first check that you have the most recent version of Adobe Reader installed. The version number can be displayed by selecting "About Adobe Reader" under Adobe Reader's "Help" menu. (See "How do I get Adobe Reader?" for details of how to obtain the latest release.)
Why do I get a blank window / screen when opening the document?
First check that you have the most recent version of Adobe Reader (see How do I get Adobe Reader?). Save the document to disc and then open the file from there instead. (Do this in Internet Explorer by right-clicking the link and selecting "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As.." from the pop-up menu that appears.)
Why does my computer freeze / hang when opening the document?
Opening large PDF documents directly from Web pages can cause your computer to stop responding. To avoid this save the file to disk first and then open the file from there instead. (Do this in Internet Explorer by right-clicking the link and selecting "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As.." from the pop-up menu that appears.)
How do I print the document?
Either:
Open the document in Adobe Reader and then select either the "print" icon or the "Print" option
under the "File" menu
OR
Right-click on the file in Windows Explorer and select "Print" from the pop-up menu that appears.
