Medical School opens its doors to first cohort of students

Thursday 15 May 2008

The University of Buckingham Postgraduate Medical School is proud to announce the first intake of students, who will register today, Thursday 15 May. A reception at 15:00 will mark the launch of the University's first two-year Clinical MD in General Internal Medicine - the first initiative from the Founding Dean of the Medical School, Professor Karol Sikora.

The clinical training will take place in London in the first instance, with one course being taught in Buckingham. Working with leading consultants our Clinical MD will provide a unique grounding in internal medicine. It is for those who have already qualified in medicine but who wish to study in more depth a series of medical sub-specialities.

This degree will mainly be taught at the West London Postgraduate Medical School (WLPMS) whose faculty includes: Professor William Lynn, Dr Stephen Ash, Dr Andrew Scurr, Dr Peter Evans, Professor Jayantha Arnold, Mr Simon Payne, Professor Jaspal Kooner and Professor Rajat Mathur.

Professor Karol Sikora comments:

This is a tremendous initiative filling a much-needed gap in the global education of doctors. The Postgraduate Medical School run in conjunction with colleagues at Ealing Hospital is just the first step in making Buckingham a major force in medical education. As well as an excellent base for training as a specialist physician, the modular course will give exposure to the latest developments across a wide range of diseases and their management.
