The Honourable Michael Misick receives an Honorary Degree from Buckingham University

Sir Martin Jacomb, Chancellor of the University of Buckingham, will confer an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws on The Honourable Michael Eugene Misick, founder and former CEO of the Paramount Group, a property and financial services company. He was elected to the Legislative Council in the Turks & Caicos Islands for the first time in 1991. After his party took the Opposition benches, and following defeat in the 1997 General Elections, Michael Misick decided to use his time by studying Law at the University of Buckingham. He received his degree in 2001 and is a Barrister at Law of England and Wales, an Attorney at Law, Turks & Caicos Islands and a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, London. The Honourable Misick is now Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Development and District Administration of the Turks & Caicos Islands.
Sir Martin will also confer an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws on Dame Elizabeth Butler-Sloss. Dame Elizabeth was a Judge of the High Court Family Division between 1979 and 1988 and the first woman appointed Lord Justice of the Court of Appeal sitting from 1988 to 1999. In 1987 she chaired the Cleveland Child Abuse Inquiry, which resulted in the Children Act 1989, incorporating many of her recommendations. She was the first woman to hold the position of President of the Family Division from 1999 to 2005 and she was, by then, the highest-ranking woman judge in the United Kingdom. Dame Elizabeth was awarded a DBE in 1979; appointed Privy Counsellor in 1988 and was raised to the rank of Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire in the New Year's Honours List in December, 2004.
The ceremony will be held in Buckingham on Saturday, 4 March at 11:30. The Honourable Michael Misick will be presented for his degree Dr Mary Welstead, MA , PhD (Cantab). Dame Elizabeth will be presented for her degree by Mrs Charlotte Walsh, MA (Oxon), LLB ( CNAA ).
