UNIVERSITY MOURNS THE LOSS OF DR ANABELA BRAVO

Dr Anabela Bravo

Friday 16 July 2010

It is with very great sadness that the University reports the loss of our friend and colleague Dr Anabela Bravo, who finally lost her struggle against cancer and died peacefully on Thursday 15 July in Lisbon. She was only 47. Anabela was a Post-Doctoral researcher working in the Psychology Department. She had been a member of staff at Buckingham since October 2008.

Psychology Senior Lecturer, Dr Philip Fine, said:

Anabela first contacted me about coming to Buckingham in July 2007, having successfully gained funding from the Portuguese government. She was due to start here in January 2008, but was diagnosed with cancer in December 2007. Her treatment set her back 9 months, but it was successful enough that she started her research in Buckingham in October 2008. Although she was never 100% well during her time here, she was still able to spend much of the following 14 months here at Buckingham, carrying out research which she presented at a conference in New Zealand in December 2009. She then returned home to Lisbon for more treatment.

It is hoped that we may remember Anabela later in the year in the University Memorial Garden. She will be very sadly missed.
