David G. Mayes and Geoffrey E. Wood (eds). The Structure of Financial Regulation. Oxford: Routledge, 2007. ISBN: 978-0-415-41380-0.
The Structure of Financial Regulation examines the motivation behind the regulation, who should organise it, whether it should vary according to the sector of activity or the regulatory culture of the country. Individual contributors examine the main regions of the world, with particular emphasis given to Europe and the United States. The book also examines areas where there have been clear failures, such as the scandals in the United States in recent years and the failure to address cross border issues. Attention is also given to the regulation of the core but often overlooked areas of the 'plumbing' of the financial system - payments, settlement, securities depositories and custody.
Under the editorship of Geoffrey Wood and David Mayes, this authoritative volume will be a useful addition to any serious economist's bookshelves. The book is published as part of the Routledge International Studies in Money and Banking series.
David G. Mayes is Advisor to the Board at the Bank of Finland, and Professor of Economics at London South Bank University.
Geoffrey E. Wood is Professor of Economics at Cass Business School and Professor of Monetary Economics at the University of Buckingham. He has kindly donated a copy of the book to the University Library.
