The University of Buckingham and Malopolska College in Brzesko, Poland (MSZW) have signed a Memorandum of Academic Partnership that will encourage exchange opportunities for students and staff of both institutions.

The Department of Economics and International Studies welcomed Professor Dr Stanislaw Lis, who is Rektor of the Malopolska College. On his visit to Buckingham Professor Lis was accompanied by Dr Bozena Szoltysek, Chancellor of MSZW, and Dr Ruprecht von Heusinger, a Buckingham Economics alumnus and Visiting Lecturer at MSZW. After a Master's at the LSE Dr von Heusinger went on to do his doctorate at the Malopolska School of Economics, under Professor Lis' supervision. It was 5 years ago that Dr von Heusinger first introduced Professor Lis to the Dean of Humanities, Professor Martin Ricketts, and to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Terence Kealey, and initiated a relationship that has now been confirmed and strengthened.

Prof Lis was also invited to give one of this term's Economics and International Studies seminars entitled "The Polish Way to the Euro. Controversy over the EMU". In his talk he explained the expected benefits of Polish membership and how, although some elements needed for an accurate analysis are difficult to measure, in the long term it would be positive for Poland to join the EMU.
