PROFESSOR SUSAN EDWARDS ATTENDS SEMINAR IN STRASBOURG |

Tuesday 1st July 2003 A seminar held in Strasbourg on 25 - 26th June 2003 brought together a number of experts, including Professor Susan Edwards, Professor in Law and Associate Dean of Law at the University. She was commissioned, together with Professor Jeff Hearn, by Integrated Project 2 of the Council of Europe, to draft a study on "Priority measures for policy and practice in relation to men in working against 'domestic violence' perpetrated by men: intervention, prevention and societal change". This study constituted the background document to a seminar organised by the Equality Division and the Directorate General of Legal Affairs and the Directorate General of Social Cohesion of the Council of Europe. |

The seminar was attended by experts from different backgrounds and different countries who all have in common the experience of working with violent men. They included:
The seminar concluded with concrete recommendations on priority measures for intervention, prevention and societal change dealing with male perpetrators of domestic violence. Professors Edwards and Hearn, the seminar rapporteurs, are preparing a final version of the adopted recommendations, which will be published with a revised version of their study. |
