If you had a chance to go to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone last weekend perhaps you noticed a cheerful bunch of smiling girls – all dressed up in various teams’ official uniforms. My friends Shani, Margaret, Shulian, Reshma and I were helping the official merchandising teams of Ferrari, BMW and Renault. It was hard work but we had great fun and felt lucky to be able to rub shoulders with the world’s most famous drivers – the fast and the furious of Formula 1.

Although it seemed that almost every single female member of the public wanted to buy a souvenir related to David Coulthard, our lucky chance came when we had the opportunity to see Juan Pablo Montoya in person (one of our own alumni, Marc Gene, is the test driver in the same team - Williams / BMW!). Juan came on Saturday afternoon to sign autographs for his fans and luckily we were present too.

Many other celebrities from the world of sport, fashion and movies attended the Silverstone race and Arnold Schwarzenegger stood out from the crowd even without his Terminator-style attire! In fact, one of our fellow students succeeded in taking a picture of himself with the famous action star.

The number of sports racing fans that came to watch the race was truly amazing - on Sunday alone there were more than 80,000 visitors! Glamorous girls, fast cars, famous personalities and an incredibly exciting race – every ingredient for an energising and memorable experience. And we, the students from the University of Buckingham. not only experienced it but were also part of it and gave our small contribution to its success!
