Friday 3rd October 2003 The plan was to raise money for charity. The target was £1,000 to be split between WarChild and the Buckingham Hospital. With events happening on each day of the week, including a dress code for each day (and a fine for those who didn't join in!); a charity bazaar with cultural stalls, musical and dance performances, games and car boot sale; Mr and Miss Buckingham beauty pageant; Chancellor’s Cup Finale; the official celebrations of Pakistan and India's Independence Day, it was a week to remember. The Grand Finale came on Saturday starting with a round robin fun tennis tournament. Alumni, students and staff, all showed exceptional abilities by playing tennis with frying pans and bin lids. By midnight, the Rag Ball was in full swing. The hypnotist mingled amongst the crowd, while in the Refectory the show got under way with our dancers, rounding up with Blind Date and the "People Auction", raising more money to round the night off nicely! The Grand Total of the Rag Week amounted to £2,763.47, which was almost three times more than the original target. It was all made possible thanks to the efforts and the contributions of students, staff and alumni. It has been truly amazing to see how we have all pulled together to raise money for charity. I must say a big "thank you" to my team-mates in the Buckingham Students' Union Executive who made me feel genuinely proud to have been part of the whole event. |
