Friday 3rd October 2003 Now a firmly established tradition, the annual meeting of the "Freunde", the German Alumni Association, was held at one of the best known events in the world: the Oktoberfest . Ingo Westermann and Birgit Otto organised a full programme with a city tour, a historic streetcar ride, a visit to THE tent (Käferzelt), a brunch in THE restaurant (Seehaus) and a guided tour through the newly opened museum of contemporary art in Munich (Pinakothek der Moderne). Supported by perfect weather the weekend was a huge success. The alumni were very keen to hear the newest stories, gossip and news from Buckingham and I was impressed by their willingness to support the University. As nothing is just pure fun, I also gave two presentations to pupils at my old school in Munich about studying in the UK and at our lovely University. Meeting all my former teachers and sitting in my old classroom (unchanged by the way) made it a very enjoyable task. What else can I say? Just that I want to thank the German alumni for their effort in organising this weekend and for their support and interest in the University. I hope that this event will grow steadily - I certainly intend to go there again! Report by Philipp von Both and the Web Team |
