CHANCELLOR'S CUP FINALE |

Friday 15th August 2003 In the best tradition of “Roy of the Rovers” the Law School performed the impossible (well, certainly the improbable after losing the opening volleyball tournament) to become the University of Buckingham Chancellor’s Cup Champions for 2003. |
|
Following their 2 games to 1 defeat in the volleyball, the Business School extended their lead to 130 points with just 2 events left. However, the attention paid by law lecturer Guy MacCrindle to the small print of the tournament rules and his skilful manipulation of the bonus points system enabled the Law School to accrue vital points. The tug of war proved that appearances could be deceptive as the Law School, the smaller of the 2 teams, won the first pull. The tables were now turned as the Business School had to win the second pull to prevent the Law School from snatching victory from their grasp. With a change of ends the Law School showed that the first pull was not a fluke as they again won the second pull with comparative ease. With Alistair Alcock, Sheena McMurtrie and James Slater leading by example (and gaining more bonus points) the Law School took the Tug of War competition and in doing so secured victory in the Chancellor’s Cup for the Law School, with a final points tally of: Law School 632 points and Business School 564 points. The Chancellor’s Cup (awarded for the first time this year) was presented to Charlotte Walsh, Dean of the Law School, and three cheers were given for all those who took part and for Stefan Ridley, whose tireless work made the whole event possible. |
