Monday 7th July 2003 John Halladay, Dean of Law, and Hilary Baxter, Director of Marketing, visited Bermuda from 22nd – 29th June to make presentations to schools and to meet alumni. |

The University of Buckingham has been responsible for educating about 10% of the solicitors on the island, many of whom are now in influential positions in Government or partners in the top law firms. Schools visited included: Saltus Grammar School, Warwick Academy (the oldest school in the Americas, founded in 1662), The Berkeley Institute, Bermuda College, Bermuda High School for Girls, Mount St Agnes Academy and Cedarbridge Academy. Interest in Buckingham’s unique 2-year degree was high, especially amongst those wishing to study law. John and Hilary had meetings with Sir John Vereker, the Governor of Bermuda, Michelle Khaldun, the Permanent Secretary for Education and David Kessaram, the Head of the Bermudian Bar Association. They also appeared on Bermudian television. All the top law companies have Buckingham alumni working for them including: Appleby, Spurling & Kempe; Conyers, Dill & Pearman; Attride-Stirling & Wolonieki and Trott & Duncan. John and Hilary had meetings with senior solicitors in all these companies. On Friday evening there was a successful alumni reunion when 20 alumni got together for drinks. Many reminisced about days at Buckingham:
"Buckingham was by far my most rewarding educational experience.
I left Buckingham a different person to the one who arrived".
"Buckingham exposed me to a much larger perspective of education
in a global way".
