Monday 27th October 2003

Art has been described as an explosive expression of humanity and the University of Buckingham art show has proved to be just that. From the 20th to the 23rd of October, students and staff proved that the University is more than just a place for academic study and can provide an avenue for students and staff to display their talents and hobbies.

Irene Simpson, a local artist who worked at the University in its early days, officially declared the art show open. On display were paintings, poems and other forms of art, all done by members of staff and students of the University. The quality of work on display encouraged people from the local community to come along and even purchase some of the work.

The week’s activities culminated with an evening of poetry recital and musical renditions on Thursday evening. The Music Society took the opportunity to put on its first ever performance. This proved to be such a success that there have been requests for a repeat of the activities. Many thanks must be given to Anne Matsuoka, Sheila Taylor, George Jones, Emil Vassilev and the team from the Students' Union for the effort put in making this event a success. We do hope that this will be the first of many and that the event will be even bigger in the future.
