Alex Jovy (English with European Law and German '95), the
University's own home-grown Oscar-nominated film director and
producer, was in Cannes this week to promote his latest
venture.
Cyrus
will be based on the life of the founder of the
Persian empire, King Cyrus and, with a budget of £50 million, could
be the most expensive independent film made in Britain.
It will be the first film ever made about King Cyrus who Alex,
quoted in
The Guardian
, describes as "a kind of Robin Hood,
a champion of human rights who drew up a kind of bill of rights for
his people called the Cylinder of Cyrus which is now in the British
Museum".
Following an Oscar-nomination for his film
Holiday Romance
Alex went on to produce and direct the thriller
Sorted
starring Matthew Rhys and Jason Donovan.
We wish him all the very best in his latest venture and if he needs
a few Buckingham people as extras we are ready and willing!
